The Art of Taking Up Space

You’re good at reading the room.

Noticing what other people need.
Adjusting. Helping. Smoothing things over.
Making room.

But when you spend so much time paying attention to everyone else, it can be surprisingly easy to lose sight of yourself.

What do I want? What do I need? Where are my edges? Where am I making myself smaller? What wants more room?

This four-hour creative workshop is an invitation to turn some of that attention back toward yourself.

Not to become less caring.

To make sure you are included in the care you give.

Here I am. I get to take up space, too.

Put yourself back in the picture.

Body mapping uses a life-sized outline of the body as a canvas for creative exploration.

Using paint, collage, words, images, color, and other materials, we’ll explore:

  • where you show up, and where you disappear
  • the roles and expectations you carry
  • your wants, needs, preferences, and boundaries
  • what feels distinctly yours
  • what you are ready to give more space

Your map doesn't need to look like anyone else's.

There is no right way to make it, and no art experience is needed.

This is NOT an Art Class and no Artistic Skill is Necessary.

No artistic experience is needed. Techniques may be demonstrated when helpful, but there is no expectation that you make something beautiful, or that you even like what you create.

What you make matters less than what happens while you're making it.

You choose how much you want to share. Throughout our time together, there will be opportunities to share stories, creative work, and reflections about what you notice through the process of making. You are always welcome to share at the level that feels comfortable to you. Or you can simply listen and witness the experiences of others.

Each gathering will include time for connection, guided reflection, creative expression, and conversation. You're always welcome to participate in the ways that feel supportive to you.

About Your Facilitator

Hi, I'm Carly Flagg.

As a Creativity-Based Coach, Certified Creative Grief Support Practitioner, Certified Professional Coach, Certified End-of-Life Doula, and longtime facilitator and educator, my work centers around creating spaces where people can slow down, notice what they are carrying, and explore it with curiosity and compassion.

Creativity is an important part of that work. I don't believe we make things in order to make grief disappear. We make because sometimes the process of choosing a color, working with our hands, arranging an object, telling a story, or creating something that didn't exist before can help us encounter our experience differently.

Come play. Make Something. Feel better!
